For 2ndary Battery Recycling, it has been operated since 2017-03-24. The headquarter is located in Gunsan which is not so famous city. It takes 200 km away from Seoul Station.

 

It is the recycling company that extracts meaningful metals from lithium secondary batteries included in EV, Mobile phones, laptops, ESS and ETC. The lithium 2ndary batteries is composed of four types, Cathode/Anode/Electrolyte, Separator. Especially Cathodes is something meaningful in terms of money. 

 

A cathode material is mainly composed of materials such as cobalt, nickel, manganese, and lithium, Sunngeel Hiteh company produces and sells materials in the form of cobalt sulfate, nickel sulfate, manganese sulfate, and lithium carbonate that are the basis of cathode material. 

CEO

Lee, Kang Myung is the CEO of this company. He has been working this company for 23 years and has about 20% of shareholding ratio. He went Korea University and majored in Metal Engineering. Als he has master degree. So at least we can tell he studied what he is running. 

And when I see the profiles for other management members most of them went to Korea University and has similar majors. We can tell they are smart but hard to deny about school tie.

Competitive advantage

 

Recyclable raw materials related to secondary batteries can be largely divided into various scraps and defective cells generated by battery cell manufacturers, and waste batteries after consumer use.

The recycling business can be divided into a pre-treatment process in black powder form by crushing and crushing raw materials such as scrap, and a post-treatment (hydrometallurgy process) in which cobalt, nickel, lithium, manganese, etc. are subjected to solvent extraction from the battery powder.

With the entire process required for recycling, the company operates not only recycle all forms of scrap, but also has the technology and mass productivity to recover all five major metals (cobalt, nickel, lithium, manganese, copper) in battery cells.

There are many companies can do pre-treatment process but not many companies, especially in Korea, can do post-treatment, especially hydrometallurgy process. So this point is the most competitive advantage.
